New Media in The Netherlands

The Dutch new media landscape is in constant motion. This lecture series aims to cast a critical and realistic eye on the specific issues surrounding new media in The Netherlands, as opposed to a more global and general approach often made. As the field of new media is still a relatively new object of study, the INC has invited Dutch experts to explore the local state of affairs, each presenting their case studies to an audience of students, teaching staff, researchers and new media professionals. Topics addressed included e-culture, telematics, new journalism, podcasting, authorship, serious games, and social software.

This series included lectures by Arie Altena, Josephine Bosma, Madeleine de Cock Buning, Han Hoogerbrugge, Francisco van Jole, Khalid Mahdaoui, Pipslab and Jorinde Seijdel.

publication: New Media in NL newspaper. Speakers in the lecture series, as well as other new media researchers, were invited to submit articles about new media in The Netherlands. Current developments are presented and analysed from the perspectives of the authors in a political, social, technological and art-historical context. The newspaper is the first publication in the Netherlands, which offers a broad overview of the Dutch new media culture. INC wants to contribute to the professionalisation of the new media sector, by publishing theory that can be used in new media education. The newspaper, which will also be available online, is to be published in October 2007 in collaboration with Sandberg Institute.

follow up: Network Lectures is a series of presentations, lectures and screenings about new media at Waag Society in Amsterdam. It is organised in collaboration with Waag Society and is streamed by Killer TV. test.killertv.nl
