Full Time (> 4 days a week)

The Institute of Network Cultures (INC) is a media research centre that actively contributes to the field of network cultures through research, events, publications and online dialogue. The INC was founded in 2004 by media theorist Geert Lovink as part of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool van Amsterdam). The institute acts as a framework sustaining several research projects, conferences, meetings and publications.

In 2005, just after the creative industries policy had taken off in the Netherlands, the INC gave a critical impulse to the debate on these policies had on creative professionals. The INC project My Creativity #2 aims to revitalise the debate on current policies and critically re-assess the creative industries rhetoric in a time when the ‘creative’ imperative is establishing itself within management contexts. In 2014 the MyCreativity #2 project will host a conference, workshops and a research blog on issues ranging from design to self-quantification and city development projects.

On March 21-22, 2014 the Institute of Network Cultures hosts the MoneyLab: Coining Alternatives conference. The aim of this event is to establish a network of artists, designers, scholars, activists and programmers working on alternative revenue models, payment systems and currencies against the backdrop of the ongoing global economic decline. Through workshops, conferences, online dialogues and publications MoneyLab: Coining Alternatives aims to both map the field of digital alternative revenue models and to foster their development and proliferation.
