On June 17, 2009, our colleagues from the MediaLAB Amsterdam organized an evening program at Trouw Amsterdam, where the students presented their projects:
- IAM Open Courseware
The aim of IAM Open Courseware is to disseminate educational materials of the School for Interactive Media (IAM) and the activities of the Institute of Network Cultures (INC). Preferably under an open license (Creative Commons) for anyone who wants use or re-use it to copy, distribute, translate and adapt for non-commercial purposes. Like this there will be an online database -consulted by students and teachers, or any other individuals with materials in the field of new media, culture and design. IAM, Interactive Media wants to be role model towards other studies directions. Besides, IAM wants to show how important and valuable it is to freely distribute your education material for students, teachers and everybody who is interested in it. Which is possible on every moment, every time and every place.

- Just Another Nationality
There are up to 177 nationalities living in Amsterdam. This interactive documentary builds on interviews with ‘ambassadors’ of these various backgrounds, talking about what it’s like to be in Amsterdam. A simple concept, with fun and interesting views on the city we live in.
- PiFworld: Play it Forward
Winner of the IAM Green Award!
Victor, Maggie and Edial are three students of the University of Amsterdam that are working together with MediaLAB on the project ‘Play it Forward’, or ‘pifworld’. They have created a viral campaign for Play it Forward, a platform for good causes, by developing a mash-up between a URL shortener (like tinyurl) and the PifWorld Database:
“Play it Forward’s (Pifworld) primary objective is to be the trusted and independent online platform for good causes, connecting people and non-profit organizations worldwide. The online platform is transparent, open en offers a unique way for institutions and individuals to support good causes. The concept and its manifestation in the Pifworld platform are in itself viral by nature: it’s a social network. To further stimulate the viral spread of PiF, we MediaLAB students will set up a viral campaign to expand the amount of ambassadors and players in Pifworld.”
