7 and 8 May 2010
VEGA (http://www.vegapark.ve.it/), Venice
The Net is a space of splitting of our present time, it is able to produce social mutations and changes in the organization of the labour. Besides this, can it also be “privileged” field for an analysis and an in-depth examination of the concept of the “common”?
This is the first big question that animates the proposal of the seminar “Digital Commons” that takes place in Venice on the 7th and 8th of May. The Net and, in general terms, the digital forms of production and of life are destined to amplify the present twisting of the geo-political balance that show the USA as the power in eclipse and China as the new centre of gravity of the global capitalism. Could the Net be the tool through which the USA play its revenge? Or maybe, within the system crisis of capitalism, does the Net indicate other options and paths where public and privat are concepts that do not mean anything anymore?
As usual, we will look for the possible answers all together. However, it is undoubted that the first problem is which questions we ask ourselves. The aim of this seminar is hard: we wish to produce a debate that is not either expected or unusable. The reason – that makes interesting and fascinating this event – is its interdisciplinary character: our persistence to look for ways out from an unique and impossibile world, encourages us to mix together the levels, the methods and the languages. As the Net life teaches us, a chaotic movement is the best and fastest way to find what one looks for.
