Listen to a new episode of Zero Infinite podcast: #4 The Online Self

Following the conference Fear and Loathing of the Online Self and the publication of Culture of the Selfie: Self-Representation in Contemporary Visual Culture in May 2017, this episode of INC’s Zero Infinite podcast zooms in on the online self and selfies, with Ana Peraica, Wendy Chun and Rebecca Stein. In the studio, Inte Gloerich, Leonieke van Dipten and Miriam Rasch discuss algorithmic identity, the importance of the background in selfies and the phenomenon of the ‘drelfie’.

Wendy Chun is Professor of Modern Culture and Media at Brown University. She has studied both Systems Design Engineering and English Literature, which she combines and mutates in her current work on digital media. Her most recent book is Updating to Remain the Same: Habitual New Media (MIT 2016).

Ana Peraica is a Croatian researcher and lecturer in visual culture and media arts. She wrote Culture of the Selfie: Self-Representation in Contemporary Visual Culture published by INC a couple of months ago.

Rebecca Stein is Associate Professor of Cultural Anthropology in Duke university. With Adi Kuntsman she wrote Digital Militarism: Israel’s Occupation in the Social Media Age (Stanford University Press, 2015), which studies the interplay between new media and military occupation in the Israel/Palestine context.
