From Resistance to Liberation:

How October 7th Made Palestinians Protagonists of Their Own History again.

The violence that is generated in a colonial context can only be the responsibility of the colonizer. Whether it comes from the colonizer or the colonized, it is embedded in colonialism itself. “No colonization is innocent […] Each civilization that justifies colonialism […] is to be considered a sick civilization, a morally compromised civilization”.
Zionist civil society, whose foundation lies in the most significant characteristics of colonialism, is responsible for the current situation. In the last months, Western media were deeply committed to showing us how divided the zionist right and the Israeli civil society are, describing how on one hand we have the “villains”, and on the other the “good ones”.
They wanted to show us how the Israeli society was just like all other societies with all its internal contradictions, how the Israeli society had matured to the point of trying to preserve the main democratic features of its State.
However, those same media were weirdly timid when it came to telling us that those divisions were not affecting the colonial structure of the State in any way and that they were rather only internal dynamics to the Israeli society itself.
It was not the statements of Ben Gvir about Palestinians that shocked Israelis, contrarily, the only concern was simply about a possible change in the balance within the Israeli society. The zionist and colonialist ground of the State, which was evident at the moment when the national government was created, is the only ideological principle that grounds the state and that permeates it in every part.

Today more than ever, it is necessary to acknowledge that, in front of a colonial State, no matter what its form is, even the most reactionary movement that fights for the liberation of its land will be more progressive in comparison.
All things considered, every colonial government is a fascist government, because it is fascist towards the colonized people.
For this reason, whoever really wants to hold a progressive position, must support with no hesitation the liberation of the Palestinian people, regardless of the means that Palestinians choose to use.
It cannot be an empty, meaningless slogan when we support people who fight for their self-determination.
We truly acknowledge the right to self-determination when we recognize that those people have the right to choose for themselves the instrument that they believe is more effective in order to achieve their liberation. Of course, it is legitimate to not want to use these instruments yourself, but it is not legitimate to question their right to use them. This is a choice that only belongs to the same people who fight for their liberation, since they will be the ones paying the highest price for their freedom.

Furthermore, one must not believe that support to Palestinians is only needed when they are “resisting”: Palestinians must be supported first and foremost when, besides resisting, they are also claiming the freedom of their people and their land.
Resistance and liberation are not interchangeable terms.
Today, we cannot settle for claiming Palestinians’ right to resist, for how long will we resist? And we will resist for what? The only reason to resist is freedom, which itself justifies each sacrifice made in the meantime.
Today we must claim the Palestinians’ right to freedom and liberation. We do not even need to look into the escalating violence of the last months, like what happened on the 6th of October at Huwara, to find reasons for what happened: unfortunately, some episodes happen on a daily basis and they’re nothing more than the daily manifestation of zionist colonialism.
Believing that the degree of our reaction is defined by limited events will not help us break the wall of fear that leads us to thinking as colonized people.
No, we do not just want to resist, we want liberation. We do not want to think that every action from us needs to be justified by something that zionists have done shortly before anymore. Every action from us is legitimate for the simple reason that it originated from the colonialism we live in, and it is its direct product.
So, what shall we choose? The rejection of violence (which, in reality, is the rejection of the violence of the colonized only) in the name of some presumed moral integrity, a product of our individualism, or taking part in the collective movement of national liberation? The struggle processes are always collective and never individual.
Deciding to abstain from taking sides in the name of some moralism that has no place in a colonial context means being completely subject to intellectual laziness and not realizing the gravity of the events that we witness.
The position that we must start from is clear. We must support the process of liberation in act, because it is the product of a people’s movement. The divisions of the resistance are united in this action, just like all Palestinian people are united and feel represented in this struggle. Supporting this movement is a moral obligation when the Palestinians’ right to speak up and self-determinate and liberate themselves from colonialism is being questioned.
This position must be even stronger as the press and politics take the zionist colonialism’s side.
We should not even be surprised by the side they picked: the West lives and thrives on the blood of colonized people and the press is nothing more than the megaphone of its positions. At this point it has decided to drop the mask: those human rights that they love to brag about are for humans only, and we are just human animals.
We can and we must highlight the Western hypocrisy, but first and foremost we need to be even more solid in the defense of our people, because it is the only means to oppose the Israeli and Western propaganda.
The repression has already been triggered, with Israel enacting its genocidal will against Palestinians, and the West following on the heels of the zionist army’s words.
And if we want to obtain liberation, we must be united, because only when united we will obtain the liberation of Palestine.

Dalla resistenza alla liberazione:

Come il 7 ottobre ha reso di nuovo i palestinesi protagonisti della loro storia.

In un contesto coloniale, la violenza che si genera non può che essere responsabilità del colono. Che essa sia fatta dal colono o dal colonizzato, essa è intrinseca nel colonialismo. “Nessuna colonizzazione è innocente. […] Ogni civiltà che giustifica la colonizzazione […] è da ritenersi una civiltà malata, una civiltà moralmente compromessa”. La società sionista israeliana, le cui basi sono nei caratteri più significativi del colonialismo, è la responsabile per la situazione in atto. Negli ultimi mesi i media occidentali si son prodigati nel volerci dimostrare come ci fosse una divisione tra la destra sionista e la società civile israeliana, come da un lato c’erano i “cattivi” e dall’altro i “buoni”. Hanno voluto mostrarci come se la società israeliana fosse una società come tutte le altre con le sue contraddizioni, come la società israeliana matura al punto da cercare di tutelare i principali caratteri democratici dello stato. Tuttavia, gli stessi media sono stati stranamente timidi nel raccontarci come queste supposte divisioni non intaccassero l’impianto colonialista dello stato, ma avessero unicamente a che fare con le dinamiche interne alla società israeliana stessa. Non erano le dichiarazioni di Ben Gvir sui palestinesi a scandalizzare gli israeliani, ma ciò che preoccupava era semplicemente un cambio nel bilanciamento interno alla società israeliana. Il presupposto sionista e colonialista dello stato, come peraltro si è visto nel momento in cui si è fatto il governo di unità nazionale, è l’unico principio ideologico su cui si basa lo stato e che lo permea fino in fondo.

Oggi più che mai c’è da riconoscere che rispetto a uno stato coloniale, qualsiasi forma esso abbia, sarà sempre più progressista anche il movimento più reazionario che lotta per la liberazione della propria terra. Ogni governo colonialista è, a conti fatti, un governo fascista perché è fascista con la popolazione colonizzata. Per questo motivo, chi vuole avere realmente la posizione più progressista possibile non può che appoggiare senza indugio alcuno la liberazione del popolo palestinese, qualunque sia lo strumento che i palestinesi scelgono. Quando supportiamo un popolo che lotta per la propria autodeterminazione, questo non può essere uno slogan vuoto di significato. L’autoderminazione di un popolo la si supporta quando si riconosce a questo popolo la possibilità di scegliere esso stesso lo strumento che trova più efficace per raggiungere la propria libertà. Certo, è lecito non condividere gli strumenti, ma non è né lecito né legittimo porre in dubbio la possibilità stessa di usarli. Questa è una scelta che spetta solo e soltanto allo stesso popolo che lotta per la propria libertà poiché sarà lo stesso che pagherà il prezzo più alto per la propria libertà. Non si può nemmeno pensare che il nostro supporto ci sia solo quando i palestinesi “resistono”: i palestinesi vanno supportati anche e soprattutto quando oltre alla resistenza rivendicano la libertà e la liberazione della propria terra.

Resistenza e liberazione non sono termini interscambiabili. Noi oggi non possiamo accontentarci di rivendicare il diritto alla resistenza del popolo palestinese, per quanto resisteremo? E resisteremo per cosa? L’unico motivo per cui resistere è la libertà, che sola giustifica e dà senso a qualsiasi sacrificio patito nel mentre. Oggi dobbiamo reclamare il diritto alla libertà e alla liberazione del popolo palestinese. Non dobbiamo nemmeno cercare nelle violenze sempre più frequenti degli ultimi mesi, come quanto successo il 6 ottobre a Huwara, delle motivazioni per ciò che è successo: certi avvenimenti sono purtroppo all’ordine del giorno e non rappresentano che l’espressione quotidiana del colonialismo sionista. Pensare anche che il nostro grado di risposta sia circoscritto a eventi limitati non ci aiuta a rompere il muro della paura che ci porta a pensare da colonizzati. No, noi non vogliamo solo la resistenza, noi vogliamo la liberazione. Non vogliamo più dover pensare che ogni nostra azione debba essere giustificata da qualcosa che i sionisti hanno fatto poco prima. Ogni nostra azione è legittima nello stesso momento in cui è originata del colonialismo in cui ci troviamo ed è suo prodotto diretto.

E dunque cosa preferire? Il rifiuto della violenza (che è in realtà solo il rifiuto della violenza del colonizzato) in nome di una supposta integrità morale frutto del proprio individualismo o la partecipazione in un moto collettivo di liberazione nazionale? I processi di lotta sono sempre collettivi e mai individuali. Decidere di astenersi dallo schierarsi in nome di un moralismo che non può trovare spazio in un contesto coloniale vuol dire essere soggetti più che mai all’ignavia intellettuale e non cogliere la portata degli avvenimenti a cui si assiste. La posizione da cui si deve partire è un appoggio netto e chiaro al processo di liberazione in atto perché frutto di un moto popolare. Le fazioni della resistenza sono unite in questa azione, così come è unito tutto il popolo palestinese a sentirsi rappresentato da essere in questa lotta. Schierarsi a favore di questo moto collettivo è un dovere morale nel momento in cui a venir messa in dubbio è la stessa legittimità del popolo palestinese a esprimere la propria volontà ad autodeterminarsi e a liberarsi dal colonialismo. Questa posizione deve essere tanto più netta quanto più la stampa e la politica si schierano a favore del colonialismo sionista. 

Non dobbiamo nemmeno stupirci di questa scelta di campo: l’Occidente vive e si nutre del sangue dei popoli colonizzati e la stampa non è che il megafono delle sue posizioni. Ormai ha deciso di gettare la maschera: i diritti umani di cui si fa vanto sono solo per gli animali e noi non lo siamo, noi siamo solo degli animali umani. Possiamo e dobbiamo sottolineare l’ipocrisia dell’Occidente, ma prima di tutto abbiamo la necessità di essere ancora più compatti a difesa del nostro popolo perché solo così riusciremo a contrastare la propaganda israeliana e occidentale. La repressione si è già scatenata, con Israele che mette in atto la sua volontà genocida contro i palestinesi e l’Occidente che segue a ruota quanto esce dalla bocca dell’esercito sionista. E se vogliamo ottenere la nostra liberazione non possiamo che compattare allo stesso modo le nostre fila perchè solo compatti si otterrà la liberazione della Palestina.
